Tips For Buying Road Bike Frames

How much do you want to spend? That’s the biggest question in your choice of road bike frame. The more you pay, the better the bike frame you get, there are many frame builders in the world and all have there own ideas of what is right, the best way to find out is by trial and probably error, or you can get help from measuring services, but remember everyone is different and it’s a good idea to shop around.

Things are a lot easier these days with the invention of compact frames with slopping top tubes; most manufacturers now have this option and make frames in small, medium and large. A few also do extra small and extra large, but you should be able to find the nearest size to you and then with seat height and stem length adjustment your bike will fit you like a glove.

What material should I go for? Well, steel used to be the only choice, and then alloy took over as the material of choice, then a mix of alloy main tubes and carbon forks was the norm until this was added to by a carbon rear end. Alloy can be substituted by titanium if you have the money to make a responsive light and comfortable frame.

At the moment most people’s choice of road bike frame is all carbon, its light, stiff and comfortable and looks wonderful.
